Apologies for the lengthy delay in bringing you the next chapter in our Happy Life On Wheels Adventures. Sometimes life doesn’t always let you sit in front of the computer to write, although sometimes I guess that could be a good thing.
Since our last post, telling you about our first week on the road (READ IT HERE), 20 or so days have flashed past. One thing we’re learning about our new life that we’re leading is that you’re never in one place for too long, and when you’re settled in a place, you want to be out exploring whenever possible.
Instead of giving you one long post to catch you up with our adventures, we thought we’d change our format a little bit. So from now on, we’ll be posting smaller blog posts about each town we stay in along with little snippets of our adventures. It should be easier to keep track of where we are and all the goings-on. Plus, it’ll be easier for us to keep on top of.
So, from our last post, you’ll know that we stayed in the beautiful surroundings of the Coves De Sant Josep. From there, we decided to head towards the coast once again, to the town of Moncofa.
First Problem
Those who read our last blog post, know that we had a slight overheating issue with the car when arriving at the Coves De Sant Josep. We thought we had gotten away with no other problems, but unfortunately, we soon discovered a small drip of coolant underneath the car. I had hoped it was just from where the car had gotten a little too hot, but to be on the safe side, we decided to find a motorhome service area not too far away. Luckily for us, we found one only 20 minutes away in the nice little coastal town of Moncofa.
Exploring Moncofa
Moncofa is finally the first stopover place that neither of us had been to. We found a comfortable motorhome service area just a 5 minute walk from the coast (Locations Here). We kind of expected it to be difficult to find a place to stop. As we drove up, we saw motorhomes parked up along the side of the road, so we had feared the motorhome service area would be full, but to our amazement, there were plenty of spaces, and they were also large enough for us to comfortably park, even with the caravan attached to the car.
Moncofa itself is a small coastal town with a nice pebble beach that we enjoyed strolling along. Our stay in Moncofa was relatively uneventful, but we did learn a valuable lesson: while resting in the service area, we had our solar panel leaning against the car, charging our solar generator. We had done this in pretty much every service area so far without any issues or complaints. This time, however, was different. Out of the blue, we had a knock on the door, and to our surprise, it was the local police warning us not to have our solar panels out leaning against the car as this is classed as ‘camping’ which is against the law in a service area. He then informed us that if the solar panels were on the roof of the caravan, then that wouldn’t be classified as ‘camping’ and would be OK!
Sometimes, Spanish law just raises more questions than it does guidance, but lesson learned! From Moncofa, we took a leisurely drive to our next destination, the beautiful town of Peñiscola.
One interesting fact about Moncofa is that it is famous for its beautiful Blue Flag beaches, which signifies high environmental standards and excellent water quality. These beaches make Moncofa an attractive destination for tourists seeking a relaxed vacation by the Mediterranean Sea.
A Little More About Moncofa
In addition to the beautiful Blue Flag beaches mentioned above, Moncofa has a lot to offer visitors. Here are a few things you might want to check out:
The Moncofa Museum is a great place to learn about the history and culture of the town.
The Ermita de la Sagrada Familia is a beautiful church that offers stunning views of the town and the surrounding countryside.
The Moncofa Market is a great place to find fresh produce, local handicrafts, and other souvenirs.
Maybe next time, we’ll stay a little longer and check out these places ourselves!
